Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS)

Professor LaBoy graduated from the Sophie Davis Biomedical Physician Assistant Program in 1983, in New York City. After graduation she ventured into various fields of medicine, from surgery to oncology, HIV/AIDS medicine, healthcare management and more recently, geriatric-psychiatry. Most of her career has focused on medico-social issues stemming from her experiences working with HIV/AIDS/mentally ill/chemically addicted and homeless patients at the height of the AIDS epidemic in the early to late 1990s. She helped establish primary healthcare clinics in Manhattan and Brooklyn, New York, which prompted her to seek a master’s degree in healthcare management. She received a PA Faculty Development Certification in 1997 from a joint faculty training initiative sponsored by New York State PA programs to grow PA faculty from existing and interested clinical PAs. After working in the HIV/AIDS field she entered academia and has since served as academician at St John’s PA Program in Queens, New York and Pacific University at Hillsboro, Oregon where she won the Junior Faculty Award in 2007. Her areas of interest are dementia and psychiatric illnesses in the geriatric population, endocrinology, neurology and psychopharmacology.
