Chemistry

Careers

Chemists study the composition, structure and behavior of both naturally occurring and man-made substances, and are involved in solving practical problems for industry as well as pursuing some of the most pressing scientific issues of our times. Chemists are involved in the development of materials and processes, including the creation of new drugs and the mechanisms for their delivery. They also monitor the quality of our environment and study the flow of energy and matter through various living and nonliving systems.

According to projections by the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, future opportunities and job growth for chemists will be concentrated in pharmaceutical and medicine manufacturing companies and in biotechnical companies. Students who complete degree programs in chemistry at MCPHS, with the strong emphasis on pharmaceutical chemistry, will be well positioned to take advantage of these opportunities.
