Fall and Spring: 15 weeks

ELA Levels

There are four ELA levels of instruction at MCPHS University from Low Intermediate to Advanced, as well as a bridge level. ELA students are required to take the ACT Compass-ESL assessment (onsite at MCPHS University) and provide a timed writing sample to help determine their program level. See test score ranges below for each level.

Each program consists of one core class (focusing on reading, writing, listening, speaking, and grammar), called Listening and Speaking, plus two special topic courses. Please note that special topic courses listed below may not be available in all semesters.

Students have the opportunity to advance through the ELA program when they’re ready to be promoted. This happens when the student achieves the required ACT Compass-ESL assessment scores combined with the timed writing sample and class performance.
