Full Time Intensive English Program – Worcester
The Full-Time Intensive English Program (IEP) helps students to acquire the language and social practices necessary for academic success. All courses have been designed to integrate both language and content—with a strong focus on the health sciences. Class sizes are small, with a limit of 16 students per class, and the faculty fosters a student-centered learning environment. A key component to the program involves students regularly participating in volunteer experiences, within healthcare-related settings, in order to develop authentic communication skills with providers and patients.
The ELA’s Intensive English Program offers classes at five proficiency levels: High Beginner, Low Intermediate, Intermediate, Low-Advanced, and Advanced. The Intensive English Program schedule includes 15-weeks of coursework during the fall and spring semesters, and a 12-week summer session.
The Intensive English Program requires students to complete 21 hours of study, each week. Students take 10 hours of core class, 5 hours of listening and speaking class, and two three-hour special topics classes.
Successful completion of Advanced Level coursework—Level 5, earns the students a Certificate of Completion from the Intensive English Program.
