BS Premedical and Health Studies

Boston

Overview

One of the few undergraduate programs of its type in the country, the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) program in Premedical and Health Studies prepares exceptionally well-rounded candidates for dental, medical, optometry, osteopathic, physician assistant, physical therapy, podiatry, or veterinary schools; or for graduate education in public health, health administration, or other health-oriented programs.

With its long history of health care education, MCPHS is the ideal setting for a premedical major. This program sustains the interdisciplinary emphasis of the core curriculum by balancing the additional science and laboratory courses necessary for medical school application with an array of liberal arts courses that provide multiple perspectives on illness and health care. Opportunities exist for students to participate in undergraduate research projects with selected faculty members.

Students are encouraged to select a minor concentration, which enhances medical school candidacy and provides an alternative for post-graduate education.

Students are also encouraged to join the College’s Premedical Society, a student organization that provides peer support, social interactions, and opportunities for community service. In addition, the Program Director and a Pre-Health Professions Advisory Board regularly review the curriculum, sponsor co-curricular events, and write institutional letters of recommendation for medical school applicants.

After completing the first three years of the program in Premedical and Health Studies, qualified students can apply to the MCPHS-Boston Master of Physician Assistant Studies program.

Qualified students also can apply for admission to follow one of these professional pathways:
