Genzyme Biopharmaceutical Fellowships

The MCPHS-Genzyme Fellowship was established to offer an educational and scholarly partnership between the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and the Genzyme Corporation. This Post-PharmD Industry Fellowship provides the Fellow with valuable experience in the biopharmaceutical industry and academia. Fellows are immersed in the culture of both programs providing exposure to a career in the biopharmaceutical industry and the academic culture of MCPHS.
At Genzyme, the Fellows are exposed to a broad range of innovative therapies in fields such as metabolic disorders, renal disease, oncology, immune-mediated diseases, and cardiovascular medicine. At MCPHS-Worcester, the Fellows embark on a number of professional, teaching and scholarly projects and presentations during this two-year program.
Four specialties are offered in the Genzyme Biopharmaceutical Fellowship -
Clinical Research, Medical Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, and Regulatory Affairs.
Clinical Research
The Fellow will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in clinical study design,
clinical protocol development, investigational products management, as well
as provide clinical pharmacy expertise to the multi-disciplinary project teams consisting of Clinical Research,
Biomedical Data Sciences and Informatics, Medical Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, and Regulatory
Affairs.
Pharmacovigilance
The Fellow will gain hands-on experience in all aspects of Pharmacovigilance including how a product's safety
profile is managed from pre-clinical development through clinical trials and post-marketing surveillance.
Regulatory Affairs
The Fellow will develop a broad base of regulatory knowledge and skill across therapeutic product development,
chemistry, manufacturing and controls, advertising and promotional labeling, and regulatory operations/compliance.
Fellowship Objectives:
- Coordinate and teach an established course on biopharmaceutical development
- Construct and present a minimum of one peer-reviewed poster at a professional meeting
- Coordinate educational curricula for pharmacy externship students
- Participate in educational sessions for students interested in pursuing Post-PharmD Industry Fellowship opportunities
- Participate in various research, writing, and teaching projects with MCPHS-Worcester faculty
- Gain hands-on experience in clinical study design, clinical protocol development, and investigational product development and management (1)
- Provide clinical pharmacy expertise to the multi-disciplinary team members from Clinical Research, Pharmacovigilance, Biomedical Data Sciences and Informatics, and Regulatory Affairs (1)
- Gain hands-on experience in all aspects of Pharmacovigilance from the management of a product's safety profile through all phases of development (2)
- Participate in multi-disciplinary project teams working with Clinical Research, Biomedical Data Sciences and Informatics, Medical Affairs, Medical Information, Manufacturing, and Regulatory Affairs (2)
- Develop a broad base of regulatory knowledge and skill across therapeutic product development, chemistry, manufacturing and controls, advertising and promotional labeling, and regulatory operations/compliance (3)
Eligibility
The Fellow will be selected on a nationally competitive basis, with interviews at the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear meeting. Applicants must have a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy. Candidates must have strong written and verbal communication skills and a strong interest in pursuing a career in the biopharmaceutical industry. Fellows will be selected on a nationally competitive basis.
Compensation
The Fellowship will provide a competitive stipend along with a comprehensive health benefit package. In addition, the Fellowship will offer an allowance for travel to conferences in pharmacy and other specialty areas.
