The English Language Academy (ELA) at MCPHS University is an accredited, university integrated program that is backed by MCPHS University healthcare expertise, reputation, and resources. It provides language skills and personal enrichment to assist international students in preparing for academic programs at the college level. The ELA offers general English language courses, as well as health science electives designed to enhance the student’s ability to communicate in practical healthcare settings, network with clinical practitioners, and interact with patients.
The ELA is staffed by experienced faculty with master’s degrees in either applied linguistics or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). The curriculum includes core classes that focus on language skills (reading, writing, listening, speaking, and grammar) as well as content knowledge (science, social sciences, literature, art, culture, and history). Medical vocabulary, nursing, pharmacy, math, and other health science courses are also offered, depending on the individual student’s academic and professional goals. Classes are taught in state-of-the-art facilities, including new science and computer laboratories.
