Arts & Sciences Core Curriculum

The Arts and Sciences core curriculum is incorporated into each baccalaureate and first professional degree program at MCPHS and represents one of the College's core values: the integration of the liberal arts and basic sciences with professional studies.

The core curriculum affirms the College's commitment to education of the whole person, to learner-centered teaching, and to humanistic health care. Its goals are:

  • GOAL 1: The ability to use reasoning skills essential to the diverse disciplines in the Arts and Sciences and the health professions
  • GOAL 2: The ability to employ effective writing, oral, and interpersonal communication skills appropriate to a variety of disciplinary and professional challenges
  • GOAL 3: The ability to understand and articulate scientific descriptions of the natural world and to conduct mathematical, statistical, and scientific inquiries of natural and social phenomena
  • GOAL 4: The ability to demonstrate awareness of self, others, and environments and to use this awareness to foster personal growth, interpersonal relationships, social consciousness, cultural competence, and civic participation

Each bachelor and first professional degree program at MCPHS tailors the core curriculum to provide:
