PA Program Admission Details
MCPHS University enrolls a class of 75 students each fall. Classes begin in early September. Decisions of the Admissions Committee are based on the applicant's ability to illustrate genuine concern for the well-being of patients and their families, as well as demonstrated academic ability to successfully complete science courses and have an overall excellent academic record. Applicants are evaluated initially on their:
- Academic record including overall and science GPAs
- Prerequisite GPA
- Personal statements
- References
- Hands-on patient care experience (recommended)
Please note: MCPHS University gives preference to students currently in our Premedical & Health Studies Pathway Program.
MCPHS University receives over 1500 applications each year. We interview approximately 260 candidates who best meet the prerequisites and show clear understanding of the role of the PA through written narratives and patient contact experience. Our interview process allows students to:
- Attend a class or grand rounds
- Meet with program leadership for an overview of the program
- Meet with current students and members of our Physician Assistant Student Society
- Tour MCPHS University’s state-of-the-art facilities
- Interview with a two-member team made up of program faculty, clinical preceptors and/or alumni
Interviewing dates are scheduled each year between October and February. Students will be notified of their admission decisions on a rolling basis with all decisions mailed by mid-February.
Prerequisites:
- Baccalaureate degree
- Minimum overall 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
- 250-500 hours of patient care experience (recommended)
