WritingCenter@mcphs.eduBecause writing is a vital communication skill for all health care professionals, every program at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) requires students to develop and apply effective writing skills throughout the curriculum.
The MCPHS Writing Center, located in B09, is open daily to help students at all levels with any writing assignment. Staff members are professional writing teachers and freelance writers who share their expertise with students in one-on-one or small group sessions. Their goal is to help students become skilled, independent writers, editors and proofreaders. The Writing Center provides tutoring and support to students in these areas:
- Understanding reading and writing assignments
- Using a writing process to compose essays
- Planning and assembling research
- Avoiding plagiarism by accurately citing sources in any format
- Reading and responding effectively to short-answer questions and exams
- Understanding grammar and punctuation
- Writing effective résumés and cover letters
- Writing proficiency exam tutorials: Ten-week, one-on-one tutorials that help students prepare for the exam
- Assignment tutorials: Students sign up to work with a consultant throughout the process of completing a major writing assignment
- Grammar tutorials: Customized tutoring on specific grammatical topics, provided at the student’s request
