A Season of Giving at MCPHS

The Community Partnerships Office organized the annual "Adopt a Family" drive with our local partner ABCD Parker Hill/Fenway NSC, collecting toys, clothing, gift cards, and cash donations for three families in the Mission Hill community. Each child received a new winter coat, hat, gloves, assorted clothing items, toys, books and art supplies. Each family also received a dental hygiene gift bag filled with brochures, dental health care items and gift certificates for free dental care at the Esther M. Wilkins Forsyth Dental Hygiene Clinic. Additionally, each family received more than $200 in gift cards to local stores including Stop and Shop, Target and Walgreens.

The MCPHS-Boston Student Government Association continued it's partnerships with the Roxbury Tenants of Harvard childcare center, organizing the annual Mitten Tree to benefit local children. Mittens were placed on the tree in the Boston campus' Matricaria Lobby with the names of boys and girls of RTH in Boston's Mission Hill neighborhood. More than 60 gifts were donated by students, faculty and staff. On December 17, the SGA executive board delivered the gifts (SGA President Max Saber is seen with the tree) to the RTH Children's Center. RTH representatives and families of the children were extremely thankful for all of the presents.

Partnering with More than Words bookstore, the Community Partnerships Office also organized a book drive to collect any unwanted textbooks, books, DVDs, CDs and video games as students moved out of their dorms for the semester. More Than Words is a nonprofit social enterprise that empowers youth who are in the foster care system, court involved, homeless, or out of school to take charge of their lives by taking charge of a business and operating a book store and cafe. Books and items collected directly benefit the youth involved in the program. MCPHS donated seven boxes of books to the organization.

MCPHS contributed to the efforts of Sociedad Latina and the Mission Church to support their annual family Three Kings Day parties for Mission Hill families. The parties celebrate the holidays as well as the rich Hispanic heritage in our community. Children all receive holiday gifts and celebrate the season with food, refreshments and entertainment.

Several student clubs and organizations also participated in organizing charitable drives for our local Boston community including a food drive to benefit the Greater Boston Food Bank, and a used clothing drives to benefit Rosie's Place and local homeless shelters.
