Pharmacy Alum Kira Raman Receives Research Award

Dr. Kira Raman PharmD was recently awarded the 2011 Massachusetts Society of Health Systems Pharmacists Resident Research Award. This is an annual award given to a pharmacy resident "who has identified a specific problem related to a health-system pharmacy practice and has proposed an innovative solution."

She received the award for her project "Strategies for the reduction of inappropriate use of proton pump inhibitors." Kira is the first recipient of this new award, and is grateful for the honor, saying "the creation of new knowledge is integral to the perpetuation of our profession."

A graduate from the Manchester campus, Kira is a PGY-1 General Pharmacy Practice Resident enrolled in the Affiliated Baystate Medical Center-Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Residency Program. This program is accredited by the American society of Health Systems Pharmacists.

Gary Kerr BSP Hampden '81, PharmD '02, Director of Pharmacy Services at Baystate and an MCPHS Trustee, accepted the award on Kira's behalf at an event at the Four Seasons in Boston.
