MCPHS Hosts Mission Hill Youth Collaborative Annual Partner’s Breakfast

2/28/2011

On February 16, MCPHS hosted the Mission Hill Youth Collaborative (MHYC) Annual Partner’s Breakfast at the Richard E. Griffin Academic Center. The event was attended by more than 40 members of the collaborative representing Mission Hill youth-serving organizations, schools, institutions, area hospitals and elected officials, as well as local youth. Boston City Councilor Mike Ross and State Representative Jeffrey Sanchez encouraged continued collaboration in the community to meet the ever-changing needs of youth.

Event participants reviewed the organization’s annual report as well as the results of a community assessment, which showed increased demand for community services. Following the presentation, participants took part in several round table discussions. Representative Sanchez also addressed the group, noting that the discussions highlight the need for more youth programming.

The MHYC is a grassroots coalition of community-based organizations and institutions that promote the well-being of the neighborhood’s young people and their families through collaborative activities. The organization works to create more effective programming, provide increased resources and act as a support network for Mission Hill youth and families. MCPHS is a continued financial supporter of the coalition. Jill Harkin, Director of Community Partnerships, represents the College at monthly meetings and helps organize student volunteers for various youth serving events throughout the year.
