Bone Marrow Donor Drive To Be Held For Manchester PA Graduate
On Thursday, December 6 from 3-7 p.m., a bone marrow donor drive will be held on the Manchester campus for a Physician Assistant Studies graduate. The alumna, who was recently diagnosed with aplastic anemia, is married with one child, and is a practicing PA in Concord, N.H. She is in need of a compatible marrow donor (none of her family members are a match), and without a marrow transplant, the disease can be fatal. The MCPHS community is pulling together to organize the drive, which is being conducted with the assistance of the National Marrow Donor Program and the Rhode Island Blood Center. Aplastic anemia is a disease where the body stops producing enough new blood cells, causing fatigue and increased higher risk of infections and uncontrolled bleeding.
Checking your compatibility is quick and painless, and only requires a simple cheek swab. Please come out and show your support for a graduate who is in desperate need of help, and please pass this along to friends and family who may be interested in being tested! The students, faculty and staff of the Manchester campus thank you in advance for your help and assistance on this very important matter. For more information on the event, you can contact Yvette Dexter at 603.314.1730 or yvette.dexter@mcphs.edu.
