Worcester Student Nurses' Association Holds Successful Blood Drive
Despite a last-minute room change and snow canceling the first day of the semester, the MCPHS-Worcester chapter of the National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA) hosted a successful blood drive through the American Red Cross on January 16. Thirty-five students, staff, and faculty arrived ready and willing to donate blood, resulting in 27 pints of blood collected. All three disciplines on the Worcester campus (nursing, physician assistant studies, and pharmacy) were represented. Eighteen nursing students volunteered their time to help donors through the process. Five of these volunteers were new students from the Class of 2009, who had started the 16-month Accelerated Nursing Program just one day before the event. With several blood types at low or critical levels throughout New England, the donations collected went to a very important cause.
