Worcester Pharmacy Students Hold Medication Review in Weston
On Friday, January 25, seven third-year PharmD students and community pharmacy residents from MCPHS-Worcester conducted a brown bag medication review for senior citizens at the Weston Council on Aging. A “brown bag” is a critical review of all prescribed, over-the-counter and alternative medications taken by the patients. The goal was to help optimize therapy and minimize medication-related problems. The medication review results in a greater understanding of medications, disease state, and quality of life for the patients. Each patient provided a list of their medications as well as in-depth questions for our pharmacy students. The students counseled on disease state, drug indication, usage, and side effects of the medications. Thanks to the students’ professionalism and excellent work and representation, the Weston Council on aging has established a partnership with the College to host more brown bag events throughout the year. The event was organized by student Christine Chaplin and Bruce Wong, preceptor at Newton Wellesley Hospital.
