Forsyth alumna Joanne Glover was featured on the cover of the October issue of national publication RDH Magazine. The Bedford, Mass. resident recently celebrated her 40th anniversary in dental hygiene. |
September 2009
Alumna Maria Sorrentino was profiled in the Boston Sunday Globe on September 27. Sorrentino has been a dental hygienist and currently works at a Waltham-based adult and pediatric practice. |
The September 21 dedication of the Ahmad H. Alhaddad Building in Worcester was covered by the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, the Worcester Business Journal and Ch. 3 Worcester. That week, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette also ran an editorial in praise of the new development and an op-ed about the College’s economic impact in downtown Worcester. |
A story about student Christina Buettner’s effort to donate bone marrow to a 28-year-old man with non-Hodgkin lymphoma appeared in the Lowell Sun on September 7. Buettner joined the National Bone Marrow Registry after attending a drive at the College. |
The Union Leader ran a series of article on September 13 exploring the way New Hampshire colleges are using social media tools like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to attract and retain students. Erika Couture, Associate Director of Admission at the Manchester campus, is quoted in one of the articles. Another article also links to some of MCPHS’ social media sites. |

Daniel Apelian, a 2005 MCPHS graduate, has been named one of the Worcester Business Journal’s 2009 “40 Under 40.” The newspaper announced the list August 31, and a celebration for the honorees was held in Worcester on September 16. Mr. Apelian owns and operates AllCare Pharmacy, a specialty pharmacy that primarily meets the medication and treatment needs for patients living with HIV/AIDS. |
MCPHS alumna Mimi Abraham was profiled in the August 2009 issue of Pharmacy Times. Ms. Abraham, a staff pharmacist in Alexandria, VA, was the winner of Walmart’s 2008 Pharmacist of the Year Award. |

A feature about why the College’s health sciences programs are flourishing despite a down economy aired on New England Cable News Wednesday, April 1. Reporter Scot Yount was on campus to cover the opening and dedication of the new Richard E. Griffin Academic Center. The story includes interviews with MCPHS President Charles F. Monahan Jr., as well as students Brenden Sovie (radiation therapy), Tiffany Puccia (dental hygiene), and Rachel Moore (nursing).

The growth of the Worcester campus was featured in the Boston Herald on March 1. The article, part of the Herald’s monthly “Road to Recovery series”, detailed the future of Downtown Worcester amid the current economic downtown. President Monahan was interviewed and discussed the College’s expansion plans for 40 Foster St. A five-minute video interview, which includes a conversation with President Monahan and footage of the Worcester campus, can also be seen viewed online. |

The Boston Sunday Globe featured MCPHS Pharmacy Outreach Program as part of their “Spending Smart” series on February 22. Pharmacists from MCPHS Pharmacy Outreach Program offered five different ways consumers can cut down on their prescription drug spending. |
Mary Foley, Dean of the Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene, was interviewed by Dimensions of Dental Hygiene, a monthly, peer reviewed journal that reconnects practicing dental hygienists with the nation’s leading educators and researchers. The interview, which was broadcast in December, was included in a “Six Dental Hygienists You Should Know” series and covers the role dental hygiene plays in larger public health sphere. Mary Sullivan, Director of MCPHS Pharmacy Outreach Program, was interviewed for a January 14 Boston Globe article about cuts to the state’s Prescription Advantage program. In the weeks before, MCPHS Pharmacy Outreach Program saw a sharp spike in phone calls from seniors looking to defray their pharmacy costs. The story was also picked up by the Associated Press and ran in several publications across the state, including the Worcester Telegram & Gazette and Cape Cod Times. |
The Springfield Republican published a similar article on January 22, also interviewing Mary Sullivan about the effect Prescription Advantage cuts have had on seniors across the state. |
