MASSMEDLINE JOINS MONTEL WILLIAMS TO TOUT PRESCRIPTION ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS

BOSTON - MassMedLine (1-866-633-1617), Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences’ statewide prescription assistance hotline, joined Emmy-winning syndicated talk show host Montel Williams at an event at Boston’s Faneuil Hall Marketplace on Friday, July 7. MassMedLine, a program pioneered by MCPHS President Charles F. Monahan Jr. in 2001, co-hosted the event along with the Partnership for Prescription Assistance (PPA).

Williams, national spokesman for the Partnership for Prescription Assistance, detailed how programs like MassMedLine and the PPA (www.pparx.org) help consumers of all ages save drastically on the prescription medication they depend on. MassMedLine partners with the PPA by utilizing their web tool as one of the ways to identify assistance programs, and continues the process by providing follow up on the application process, including medication review from licensed pharmacists.

Speaking at the event, Mary Sullivan, Director of MassMedLine, encouraged attendees and their families to utilize all of the resources the two programs provide. “The response of patients when they receive their needed medication through our intervention is overwhelming -- Like the patient from North Attleboro who received medication through this program to treat her chronic illness, or the patient from Everett who can now get their insulin, or the patient who received her needed inhaler and told me that we saved her life,” Sullivan said. “We know first hand about the challenges families face when dealing with chronic disease and obtaining what they need.”
