Mary Sullivan, Director of MassMedLine, Wins Massachusetts Pharmacist of The Year Award

LEDYARD, CT / Friday, September 29 – Mary Sullivan, Director of MassMedLine, received the Pharmacist of the Year award at the 2nd Annual New England Pharmacists Convention at Foxwoods Resort & Casino in Ledyard, CT. The award is given out annually by the Massachusetts Pharmacists Association (MPhA), and was presented by MPhA President Brian Ambrefe. Sullivan was chosen for spearheading MassMedLine’s community outreach projects.

“It is truly an honor for me to be recognized by my colleagues with the President's Pharmacist of the Year Award,” said Sullivan in her remarks. “I especially want to thank MCPHS President Charles F. Monahan Jr. and the College administration for their continuing support for this much needed resource. This award reflects all the hard work the staff of MassMedLine does every single day.”

“I can’t think of a more deserving recipient of this award than Mary,” said Dennis G. Lyons, MCPHS Vice President of Institutional Advancement, after the presentation. “Mary has been at the forefront of important health care issues since the program’s inception, and with her compassion and expertise, MassMedLine will be helping Massachusetts residents for years to come.”

Sullivan earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Rhode Island. Her career has taken her from the independent retail environment to the position of Supervisor of the Ambulatory Pharmacy at St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, MA. There her focus was on providing discharge counseling and directing the sample program. Sullivan joined MassMedLine in 2001. The program, which recently celebrated its fifth anniversary, is a public-private partnership between the Executive Office of Elder Affairs and the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. MassMedLine is a free program that assists Massachusetts residents in obtaining affordable prescription drugs and information about their medication. The service can be reached at 1-866-633-1617, or www.massmedline.com.
