MCPHS At The 111th Boston Marathon

Volunteers from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences worked both on the front lines and behind the scenes of the 111th running of the Boston Marathon on April 16. For the second straight year, Jessica D’Abrosca, MCPHS College Relations, organized a team of students and staff to join thousands of other volunteers for the annual Patriots Day tradition.

Approximately 25 student volunteers from the Boston and Worcester campuses cataloged runners’ belongings at the starting line in Hopkinton and transported them back to Boston where runners were able to retrieve them at the Copley Square finish line. Meanwhile, thirty Physician Assistant Studies students tended to runners at several medical tents, as well as many of the medical vans for elite runners.

Lonny Townley, MCPHS Director of Development and Boston Athletic Association Course Clocks Liaison for the Greater Framingham Running Club, organized 65 volunteers from the club and who were out on the course making sure the official time clocks were properly maintained and working throughout the marathon. Congratulations to Team MCPHS for braving the cold and rain to help make this year’s marathon another great success.
