MCPHS Hosts Life Sciences Hearing
On December 19, MCPHS Boston hosted a hearing of the Massachusetts legislature’s Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technology. Committee members present at the hearing were Sen. Jack Hart (Chair, D-Boston), Rep. Jeffrey Sanchez (Vice Chair, D-Boston), Rep. John Sciback (D-South Hadley), and Rep. Richard Ross (R-Wrentham). President Charles F. Monahan Jr. opened the hearing by welcoming the Committee and giving a brief overview of the College and its role in the future of the state’s life science and biotech industries. “Longwood Avenue is home to 21 prestigious educational and health-related institutions,” the President told the legislators. “There are over 40,000 employees and 18,200 students.” Much of the testimony at the hearing concerned House Bill #4234, Governor Deval Patrick’s $1 billion life sciences industry bill.
