Rep. Louis L. Kafka Receives 2nd MCPHS Health Care Leadership Award

On July 11, State Representative Louis L. Kafka (D-Stoughton) received the 2nd Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) Health Care Leadership Award at the Sharon Adult Center. The award, presented to Rep. Kafka by Dennis G. Lyons, Vice President for Alumni & Professional Affairs, was created to honor individuals in the Commonwealth who have made significant and lasting contributions to the quality of health care received by the citizens of Massachusetts. Rep. Kafka was selected for his work over the past several years as the primary sponsor of the MCPHS Pharmacy Outreach Program budget amendment in the House of Representatives, andensuring that the College’s toll-free prescription assistance hotline is able to continue providing timely and accurate information to the citizens of the Commonwealth.

A large gathering of seniors attended the award presentation including Senator James Timilty, Emmett Schmarsow, Program Manager for the Executive Office of Elder Affairs, Norma Fitzgerald, Director of the Sharon Council on Aging, and Kathy Keough, Executive Director of Government Affairs and Continuing Education at MCPHS. In addition, Paula Evans, pharmacist for MCPHS Pharmacy Outreach Program, answered questions from seniors about medications and insurance issues. Free pizza and refreshments were also provided courtesy of MCPHS Pharmacy Outreach Program.

Rep. Kafka is currently serving his ninth term as the State Representative for the 8th Norfolk District. He serves on the House Committee on Ways & Means, the Joint Committee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure, the Joint Committee on Public Service, and this year was named the Vice-Chair of the Joint Committee on Elder Affairs.
