Worcester Pharmacy Student Receives Schweitzer Fellowship
On April 24, it was announced that Chinelo Enwonwu, a 1st year MCPHS-Worcester pharmacy student and native of Nigeria, has been named one of 25 Boston Schweitzer Fellows for 2009-2010. As part of Chinelo’s project, she will be collaborating with the College’s Pharmacy Outreach Program at MCPHS Pharmacy Outreach Program and St. Anne’s Free Medical clinic to increase individuals’ access to prescription benefits and pharmacy services. This outreach will also most likely extend to the free clinic at St. Bernard’s in Worcester. Chinelo’s project falls in line with the larger goal of the Pharmacy Outreach Program — to improve individuals’ consistent access to prescription drugs and medication information.
Since its inception in 1991, the Schweitzer Fellowship has provided more than 400,000 hours of service to the communities it serves. Fellows serve for one year, working with local community agencies in Baltimore, Bay Area, Boston, Chicago, Greater Philadelphia, Houston/Galveston, Los Angeles, New Hampshire/Vermont, New Orleans, North Carolina, and Pittsburgh to implement sustainable projects that make a lasting, on-the-ground difference in the health of local communities. Congratulations to Chinelo for being recognized by the Schweitzer Fellowship for this important work.
