5 Reasons to Attend Open House

  • Finding a college or university that is the right fit doesn't have to be overwhelming. But with so many options — how do you choose the perfect school?

Attending an Open House is a great way to learn everything you need to know about a college or university. From the academic offerings to campus life, you'll have the chance to really get a feel for whether it is the right school for you.

Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) hosts Open Houses on each of our campuses in Boston, Worcester, and Manchester, NH. Here are our top five reasons you should attend.

    1. Learn why future healthcare leaders call MCPHS home.

MCPHS has been educating health professionals for nearly 200 years. From our inception as the second oldest pharmacy college in the country to our current iteration as a global health sciences university, our graduates become leaders in the healthcare industry and are among some of the top earners in the nation. According to the U.S. Department of Education's College Scorecard, MCPHS graduates earn a median annual salary of $116,000 ten years post enrollment. This is why the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education ranked us 2018's #1 University for Earning Power and Money Magazine ranked us as the #1 Most Transformative College of 2018.

    2. Get a feel for the campus.

When you step on campus you will get a feel for our immersive health sciences atmosphere. You'll walk the halls with like minded peers who have a common goal — to make a positive impact in patients' lives. Our commitment to interprofessional education means you will experience learning opportunities that will prepare you to be an active member of today's modern healthcare team.

Take a campus tour and see our classrooms, labs, and study spaces. Visit our residence halls on the Boston and Worcester campuses. Beyond campus, explore our neighborhoods. In Boston, we're located in the Longwood Medical Area — a healthcare hub full of world-class hospitals and research facilities. In Worcester, our campus is in the heart of downtown and has "jump-started" a revival of the downtown area. In Manchester, you'll find our campus nestled within the quaint downtown area of a quintessential New Hampshire city.

    3. You have questions. We have the answers!

At an Open House, you will have the chance to ask all your questions. From how the application process and financial aid works to what it's really like to be an MCPHS student, Open House is your chance to learn more from admission and financial aid staff, faculty, and current students. These events are typically larger than a traditional weekday campus visit and have more staff available to answer your questions. Use this opportunity to ask questions directly to the experts in that area. Come prepared with questions and write more down as you think of them throughout the day. Record the answers, so you can compare with other schools you are visiting.

    4. Hear how to make an MCPHS education affordable.

Finances can often play a significant role in where you attend college. That's why we will have financial aid staff available to talk about how to make an MCPHS education affordable. Each year MCPHS awards more than 20 million dollars in university funding. From merit scholarships and need-based awards to state and federal grants and loans, our Student Financial Services and Admission staff will help you make sense of it all.

You will also learn more about the MCPHS Advantage scholarship program. A 100% tuition scholarship for any student who completes a full-time degree at MCPHS that can be used toward one of six online master's degrees — including an MBA. We understand that today's healthcare industry is more complex than ever, that's why we created this scholarship to help set MCPHS graduates up for professional success in an industry where having an advanced degree is becoming the norm.

    5. Meet your future classmates and peers.

At the Open House, you'll meet current students and prospective students who have the same professional goals as you. These are the people who you will be living and learning with and could be your future classmates, roommates and friends. Talk with the current students in attendance and ask them what it's really like to be a student here. Understanding the diverse personalities of the students who attend the school will help you to determine if it is the right fit for you.
