MCPHS Graduate Begins Nursing Career Alongside Mother

  • MCPHS graduate Devon Ballentine will start his nursing career alongside the same woman who inspired him to join the profession: his mother.

Ballentine grew up watching his mother, a life-long nurse, form meaningful relationships with her patients, deliver compassionate care, and make a positive impact on her community. She was able to help and heal others through her career—something that resonated with Ballentine, who wasn't sure where his professional path would lead. But as his mother spoke more about her rewarding work as a nurse, his path forward became clear. After finishing his undergraduate coursework at UCLA, Ballentine decided to follow in his mother's footsteps and enrolled in MCPHS's postbaccalaureate Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.

Having officially earned his BSN, Ballentine recently returned to California to begin his career as a medical-surgical nurse at UCLA Medical Center—the same hospital where his mother works as a maternity nurse. He's looking forward to learning, growing, and pursuing his dream alongside her.

"I could not be happier with my choice...I’m learning so much. It’s a perfect career," says Ballentine.
