Student Club Spotlight: Student American Dental Hygienists Association

  • The association will host a periodontology resident on campus for Dental Hygiene Month.

The Student American Dental Hygienists Association (SADHA) helps its members develop leadership through education and professional development. We caught up with President Anna Ventouris, a candidate for a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene - Predental Track, to learn about the student club.

October is Dental Hygiene Month. How is the SADHA club in Boston celebrating?

We will have a special guest on campus who is a dentist and a periodontology resident. She will share her experience of going through dental school and working in periodontology and hygiene. We are also going to be having Halloween-themed events. Follow us on Instagram (see below) for details.

This month’s theme is “Empowered,” can you speak more about what empowered means to you?

To us, "empowered" means having your voice heard and knowing that you stand out in a community. As a hygienist, it's empowering to have patients listen and implement your advice.

Are there any events, activities, or initiatives you will host this year?

We will be hosting guest speakers and fun events like pizza parties. We will decorate the Forsyth Dental Hygiene Clinic (at MCPHS) waiting room for breast cancer awareness month and hopefully provide some volunteer opportunities.

What events, activities, or initiatives have you organized in the past?

We’ve had a bunch of special guests come in and tell us about their experiences in the field. We’ve had tie-dye events and volunteer opportunities at the Special Olympics.

Who can join? How can they join?

SADHA is a student membership through the American Dental Hygienists Association. Dental hygiene students can join through the ADHA website and sign up for student membership.

    When do you meet?

We usually host our events and meetings on Tuesdays or Thursdays during activities hours.
