Graduate Certificate in Medication Safety

Several healthcare agencies such as the Joint Commission, Institute for Safe Medication Practices, Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality are encouraging institutions to create a culture of safety. This program is available to all healthcare professionals, including physicians, pharmacists, and nurses, interested in assuming leadership roles in assessing and improving patient and medication safety in their organizations.

This 5-course program is offered entirely online for working professionals. As a student, you will learn the fundamental concepts and tools that will guide you in developing various initiatives in medication safety at your practice settings. When you graduate, you’ll have firsthand knowledge on how to create a culture of safety, align medication safety plans with the goals of the organization, learn from defects in medication-related processes, and incorporate human and environmental factors to reduce medication error and adverse events. All to effectively implement change


For admission to the certificate program, an applicant must have:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Employment or work experience in a healthcare setting preferred
