Interested in exploring the fields of healthcare business or administration? Whether you’re looking to return to the classroom or advance your career, this introductory-level certificate helps students learn the fundamentals of healthcare business management, economics, finance, and accounting.

Who Should Enroll?

This program is designed for individuals currently in or interested in the healthcare field who have limited and/or no experience in healthcare business or administration. If you are looking for initial exposure to healthcare business topics, this certificate is for you.

For students considering a future MBA, the certificate courses fulfill 9 credits toward the MBA for students who don’t have an undergraduate business degree. If you successfully complete the certificate and hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, you will be admitted to the MBA program. Please see MBA admissions for more info.


Students complete the following three courses (each course is 3 credits):

  • HCM 701 | Introduction to Business Management
  • HCM 715 | Healthcare Economics
  • HCM 742 | Finance and Accounting for Healthcare Organizations

Students may substitute these courses for HCM 742:

  • PSB 415 | Accounting and PSB 446 | Healthcare Finance
    *both courses need to be taken
  • PSB 416 | Managerial Accounting and PSB 446 | Healthcare Finance
    *both courses need to be taken

Students must earn at least a B- in each course and a 3.0 cumulative GPA in the certificate courses.

  • No transfer credits will be accepted for the certificate
  • Students are expected to hold a bachelor’s degree and be proficient in English language skills.
