Paul V. Kaplita is a professor of pharmaceutical sciences at MCPHS. He was a NIEHS Postdoctoral Fellow at Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, NH before joining the Department of Physiological Pharmacology at Nova Pharmaceutical Corp. in Baltimore, MD as a staff scientist. Professor Kaplita moved to the Sterling Winthrop Pharmaceuticals Research Division in

Great Valley and Collegeville, PA as a Principal Research Investigator in the Department of Natural Products Biology. He later worked at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals in Ridgefield, CT as a Senior Principal Scientist in the Departments of Biomolecular Screening and Drug Discovery Support. He joined the faculty at MCPHS full-time in 2010. Dr. Kaplita is the Assistant Dean of Graduate Studies and also serves as a member of the IACUC, Assessment, Admissions, and Student Awards Committees at MCPHS.

Education

Paul V. Kaplita received his bachelor's degree in the Biological Sciences from the University of

Connecticut and doctorate in Biochemical Pharmacology from the University at Buffalo, State University of New York.

Research Interests

My research interests include toxicology, drug discovery, higher throughput screening, and in vitro assay miniaturization. I have worked with synthetic new chemical entities and natural products from microbial, plant, and marine extracts. My current research goals are to employ a sentinel ensemble of in vitro assays in zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos to evaluate the therapeutic or deleterious effects of novel pharmaceutical agents or supplements on essential signaling and stress response pathways.
