Family Weekend 2019

October 25 — October 27, 2019

Join us for this annual fall tradition which gives students, their families and guests an opportunity to meet the MCPHS University community. Events will take place both on and off campus.

All families and guests visiting MCPHS during Family Weekend are encouraged to register online for Family Weekend events as space is limited. For those events that require cost, payment is required at the time of registration.

Registration will open Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 10 a.m. through Friday, October 18, 2019 at 4 p.m. or until tickets sell out. Each paid ticket will have a service fee upon payment.

When you arrive on campus you will be provided with registration materials, tickets, and a Family Weekend packet, which will include helpful maps of the campus and Boston area, as well as the latest information about activities happening throughout the weekend.

Please note check-in will only be available at the following times and locations:

  • Friday, October 25: 12:00 p.m.- 4:30.p.m. in the Center for Campus Life
  • Friday, October 25: 4:30 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at 179 Longwood Ave Entrance
  • Saturday, October 26: 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. in the Griffin Lobby

Get spooked in CAB’s Haunted Halls, one of the largest and spookiest traditions at MCPHS that will leave you running!

Saturday, October 26

Welcome Breakfast

Boston Duck Tours
Time: 12:30 p.m.
Location: 179 Longwood Ave. Entrance
Price: $25/person
You’ve never toured Boston in anything that comes close to Boston Duck Tours. Take a journey as you board your “DUCK,” a W.W. II style amphibious landing vehicle as you cruise by all the places that make Boston the birthplace of freedom and a city of firsts and then splash into the Charles River for breathtaking views of the Boston and Cambridge skylines.

Pre-registration required. Children under the age of three (3) are permitted but participants must provide their own child seat. Boarding begins 15 minutes on Louis Pasteur Avenue, please meet at 179 Longwood Ave. Drop off location is at the Prudential Center.

Boston Bike Urban AdvenTours
Time: 2:00 p.m.
Location: 103 Atlantic Ave, Boston, MA 02110
Price: $20/person
From the bustling streets of downtown to the serene bike paths on the Charles River, this tour truly brings you the Best of Boston by Bicycle! This tour takes you through six different neighborhoods, as we cycle past countless historical and cultural sites throughout the city. This bike tour includes an individually-fitted bicycle, helmet, water, and of course, a friendly and knowledgeable guide who leads you on your travels.

Pre-registration required. This tour is not recommended for those who are uncomfortable cycling on city streets. We welcome families with children who are comfortable cyclists and at least 10 years old. Younger riders and those less comfortable on two wheels are encouraged to take another bike tour. We do not allow tandem bikes, burley trailers, or trail-a-bikes on this tour. The tour is roughly 25% on bike paths and 75% cityriding. Transportation is not provided. Directions will be provided in Welcome Packet at check-in. Tour begins at 2:00 p.m., please arrive at least 15 minutes to meet with your tour guide.

Fenway Park Tour
Time: 2:30 p.m.
Location: 4 Yawkey Way, Boston, MA 02215
Price: $10/person
“America’s Most Beloved Ballpark” is uniquely nestled in the city of Boston. Fenway Park is a place where dreams are made, traditions are celebrated and baseball is forever. See the home of Red Sox Legends, Williams Yaz, Fisk and Rice.

Pre-registration required. Transportation is not provided. Directions will be provided in Welcome Packet at check-in. Tour begins at 2:30 p.m., please arrive to the Team Store at least 15 minutes to pick up your tour ticket.

Evening Activities

Ghost and Gravestones Tour
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Location: Long Wharf, 200 Atlantic Ave Boston, MA 02110
Price: $25/person
Hear all about Boston’s dark side! Join us as we explore Boston’s most chilling murder sites, haunted places, and spend time with the dead as your tour includes exclusive nighttime access into two of Boston’s oldest burying grounds.

Pre-registration required. Children under the age of six (6) are not recommended for this tour. Transportation is not provided. Directions will be provided in Welcome Packet at check-in. Tour begins at 7:00 p.m., please arrive at least 15 minutes before.

CAB’s Haunted Halls

Improv Asylum Show
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Location: 216 Hanover Street Boston, MA 02113
Price: $20/person
Featured on HBO and named Boston's Best Comedy Club, Improv Asylum's Main Stage Show features a cast of actors who bring together improvisation and sketch material in front of a live audience. The show has been described as a "hilarious mix of Whose Line is it Anyway? meets Saturday Night Live!." The cast takes suggestions from the audience and creates comedic scenes on the spot - nothing is predictable, anything can happen and it's never the same show twice!

Pre-registration required. Transportation is not provided. Directions will be provided in Welcome packet at Check-In. Show begins at 7:30 p.m., please arrive at least 30 minutes prior.

Sunday, October 27

Fenway Park Tour
Time: 10:30 a.m.

There are a number of hotels located in and around the Boston area. For your convenience, MCPHS University has negotiated special rates at The Inn at Longwood Medical. Rooms are available for individual booking on a first come, first serve basis.

Is there an age limit to enter Family Weekend events?

The following Family Weekend events have an age requirement:

  • Boston Duck Tour: Children under three are permitted but participants must provide their own child seat. Visit the official website for more information.

How do I arrange for disability-related accommodations?

Ticket Information 

Do I purchase a ticket for my student?

Yes, please include your student when registering for Family Weekend events. 

Is there a limit on how many tickets I can purchase?

There is a limit of 5 available tickets per event. However, if you are planning on having more than 5 participants (and please include your student in the count), please contact the Center for Campus Life at 617.732.2086 and we will accommodate you directly

How will I obtain my Family Weekend event tickets?

Your tickets will be included in your Family Weekend packet when you check-in for Family Weekend 2019. Tickets will not be mailed to families.

Friday, October 19: 4:30 p.m. - 6 p.m. at 179 Longwood Ave Entrance

Do I have to bring my printed EventBrite ticket to the event?

You do not need to print your EventBrite tickets for Family Weekend events. You will receive all tickets to registered events in when you check-in.

How can I purchase discounted tickets for Boston attractions and museums?

 Tickets to the following Boston attractions and museums will be sold on-campus in the Cardinal Booth during Family Weekend: New England Aquarium, Regal Cinemas, and AMC Theaters. A maximum of 5 tickets total per family available at $10/ticket.

The Cardinal Booth will open during Family Weekend at the following times:

Friday, October 25: 9 am - 6 pm
Saturday, October 26: 2 pm - 6 pm

Cancellation and Refund Policy

What is the cancellation and refund policy?

For families requesting a refund, the deadline is Friday, October 18, 2019 by 4 p.m. by email to kristen.dvorsky@mcphs.edu. After this period all sales are final. There are no exchanges. Your ticket cannot be replaced if lost, stolen or destroyed, and is valid only for the event and seat for which it is issued. Your ticket is not redeemable for cash.

Parking and Transportation

What are my parking options for Family Weekend?

Please visit our Location & Maps page for parking garages in the surrounding area as well as how to get to our Boston campus. MCPHS University is located at 179 Longwood Ave, Boston, MA, 02115. There are several parking garages nearby, however there is no on-campus parking.

Will there be transportation provided to off-campus events?

Transportation will not be provided to off campus or evening activities. Directions to off-campus events will be provided in your Family Weekend materials when you check-in.
