What Does it Mean to be an MCPHS Alum?

By Jennifer Spira

At this year's Commencement, Gail Phillips Bucher and Ed Bucher (center) were recognized with honorary Doctor of Science degrees. Together, they exemplify how to engage meaningfully with MCPHS. They give service to the Board and across the University, in addition to funding student scholarships, innovative teaching, and faculty research.

Sue Gorman reflects on the significance of the MCPHS Alumni community, and how graduates can stay connected, involved, and proud.

Just a few weeks ago, the Class of 2025 walked across the Commencement stage, filled with pride, excitement, and perhaps a bit of relief. Now they join you—and thousands of others—as proud MCPHS Alumni.

To the Class of 2025, welcome! We are incredibly proud of all you’ve accomplished, and we’re thrilled to officially welcome you into the Alumni community.

You might be wondering: What exactly does it mean to be an MCPHS Alum? The answer is many things—and all of them are essential to the strength of our University.

First and foremost, it means being part of a lifelong connection that links past, present, and future generations. We’re here to support each other, always: to celebrate your milestones, to share your stories, and to walk with you through life’s transitions. And yes, we have fun together, too. (Just check out our Flickr to see some of the memories we’ve made!)

Your journey as an Alum can follow many paths, depending on what feels right to you:

  • Share your MCPHS pride with high school students in your neighborhood.
  • Help a fellow grad land their next role by opening a door at your company.
  • Return to campus to speak in a class or to a student club.
  • Invest an hour a month mentoring a student who’s deciding their next steps.

This newsletter is just one of the ways we stay connected. When it lands in your inbox, dig in to read updates on your fellow Alumni, save the date for upcoming events near you, and explore carefully curated resources, like career tips and continuing education opportunities. Each issue is a chance to celebrate the network that wants to see you succeed. Of course, you’ll want to explore our brand-new website, too!

To be an MCPHS Alum is special. You are part of something lasting, built on shared understanding, care for community, and lifelong learning. Remember, no matter where life takes you, MCPHS will always be your home.
