Bachelor of Science in Public Health—Acupuncture Pathway (BS/MAC)

This 3+3 pathway allows you to earn both a Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BS) and a Masters of Acupuncture (MAC) or Master of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine (MAC CHM) in six years instead of the traditional seven.

A Holistic Approach to Public Health

During your three undergraduate years on our Boston campus, you will develop a solid foundation in public health through science and liberal arts courses. Additionally, you will learn how to strategically address some of the most complex health problems facing society. You will complete the final three years of the program at the New England School of Acupuncture on our Worcester campus where you will work directly with patients from the community in a holistic clinical setting. You also will collaborate with other members of a healthcare team to deliver integrative treatment plans. The program begins in the fall.

Your Three-Year Undergraduate Journey

Our varied and holistic approach to public health education will prepare you to play a significant role in the public health arena giving you a robust foundation for your acupuncture study and training.

First-Year Experience

  • study various areas of biology and chemistry and attend associated labs
  • gain an understanding of culture, identity, and public life and how those factors impact public health
  • learn calculus and expository writing

Second-Year Experience

  • develop an understanding of public health research methods and the role of environment in health
  • hone your interpersonal communication skills and learn about human psychology and cultural anthropology
  • study human anatomy and physiology and apply your knowledge in laboratory work

Third-Year Experience

  • build your knowledge of epidemiology, public policy, and healthcare ethics
  • learn how to collect and manage health data and biostatistics
  • study medical microbiology, nutrition, health, and lifestyle medicine
  • students who submit an application, achieve the minimum GPA, and course requirements are guaranteed an interview for admission into the MAC/MAC CHM program
