Safety and Security

Boston Student Life

We all want to feel safe in the environment where we choose to live and learn, and MCPHS takes campus safety and security very seriously. Although reported crime at MCPHS is low, it is important for students, faculty, staff, and visitors to remember that the university is located in an urban setting and shares many of the safety issues that exist in any city. Preserving the safety and security of the university is the combined responsibility of the entire community.

Public Safety Boston

The MCPHS Department of Public Safety is staffed 24 hours a day to respond to any emergencies, both personal and building-related. The Department of Public Safety responds to any type of safety issues and is responsible for Access Control, IDs, all key requests, parking enforcement, lost & found, and lockers. If you require any assistance in any of these areas please do not hesitate to stop by the Public Safety Desk in the lobby of the Fennell Building or call 617.732.2900.

Identification

All community members are issued an I.D. card free of charge upon matriculation into the college. The card also serves as the student's library card and meal plan. Safety is a priority at MCPHS, community members are expected to wear their college I.D. at all times when on campus and to show their I.D. upon request of a properly identified official or member of the MCPHS staff. The I.D. system is designed to assure that only students, staff, and faculty have access to the college. All visitors, including parents and guardians, must register at a Public Safety Desk and be escorted in by an MCPHS community member. No one is admitted into the college without an I.D. All other entrances into the college are locked and inaccessible without valid and active identification.

The loss of the card should be reported immediately to the Department of Public Safety. Found IDs will be kept at the Public Safety Desk in the lobby of the Fennell building. The fee to replace an I.D. card, for any reason, is $25; application and payment for replacement are made at the Help Desk.

Escorts

Escorts are available to walk with MCPHS community members to parking lots and nearby residence halls. Go to the Public Safety Desk in the lobby of the Fennell building and advise an officer that you would like an escort.

Lost and Found Policy

All lost and found items should be reported immediately to the Department of Public Safety. If an item is found, please bring it to the Public Safety Desk. Upon request, a Public Safety officer will pick it up and bring it to the Public Safety Desk. If an item is lost, please contact Public Safety as soon as possible to report the lost item. A log will be kept for lost and found items, including the name of the person, a brief description of the item, the location where the item was lost or found, and the telephone number of the individual making the report. Depending on the item, a notice may be posted on the College's information monitors. All lost items must be claimed within 30 days.

Stolen Items

If you believe that your property was stolen, please fill out a theft report at the Public Safety Desk.

Crime Statistics and Fire Safety

The Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) (PL 110-315) became law in August 2008 requiring all institutions of higher education that provide residential housing facilities for students to develop an annual campus security and fire safety report. The contents of this report reflect the requirements outlined in HEOA, which are included in the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) campus fire safety program. MCPHS prides itself on being a very safe campus.
