College Clinical Affiliates Rank Among Top Hospitals

MCPHS students participate in clinical rotations at nation's top hospitals, including Boston Children's and Mass General, according to U.S. News & World Report.

At Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS), our students take advantage of clinical rotations at the nation’s best hospitals.

Two of these clinical affiliates have just been named the top hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. Boston Children’s Hospital has been named the #1 pediatric hospital in the nation and Massachusetts General Hospital has been named #1 hospital in the nation.

For students in our School of Nursing, these clinical affiliates represent the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, working alongside the best doctors and medical professionals in the field.

During the 2015-2016 academic year, 138 of our nursing students from our Boston and Worcester campuses participated in a clinical rotation at Boston Children’s Hospital.

“Children’s is number one for a reason: The care that they provide to patients and families is at the highest level in both competence and compassion,” says , who completed a clinical rotation at Boston Children’s before graduating from the School of Nursing on our Boston campus earlier this year. She is now an RN in the state of Rhode Island.

It was this clinical rotation that allowed Burgoyne BSN ‘16 to combine her natural ability to connect with children with the knowledge she gained during her time at MCPHS.

“In all the excitement of my time at Children’s, I tried not to lose sight of what a gift it was just to be there,” said Burgoyne. “Not many nursing students or even professional nurses get the chance to spend time in a world-class teaching hospital. I will always be grateful that I had the opportunity.”

Faculty, many of whom have worked or currently work at Boston Children’s, appreciate the value of the University’s esteemed clinical partners.

“It is a privilege for our students to be able to learn about pediatric nursing at the country’s premier pediatric healthcare institution,” said Professor Teresa Dean, MS, RN. “I worked at Boston Children’s Hospital from 1986 through 1997, and I am still impressed with the quality of patient care just as much today as I was back then. We are excited to continue our partnership between Boston Children’s Hospital and the MCPHS University School of Nursing.”

Massachusetts General Hospital, another of our clinical affiliates, was ranked the number one hospital in the nation – including ranking #1 in Patient Care and #1 in Research.

During the 2015-2016 academic year, 70 of our nursing students from the Boston and Worcester campuses participated in a clinical rotation at Massachusetts General Hospital.

“Our students appreciate the distinct privilege of learning at such an excellent institution as Massachusetts General Hospital,” said Professor Meaghan Whitfield, MSN, RN-BC. “One thing our students truly value about MGH is that they have the opportunity to participate in a diverse learning experience due to the resources and staff collaboration.”

This proved especially true for Laura Stanton BSN ’15, who completed her final clinical rotation at Massachusetts General Hospital before graduating from the Postbaccalaureate BSN program on our Worcester campus.

“It was a great honor and privilege to be able to complete my final clinical rotation, as well as my pediatric rotation, at MGH,” said Stanton BSN ’15. “Every day I had a great day; each staff member I interacted with was willing to teach me and support me.”

For many of our students, these clinical rotations leave a lasting impression.

“The last day walking out of clinical, I felt confident in that moment: I am ready to be a nurse,” said Stanton BSN ’15.
