Student Club Spotlight: Hispanic-Latino Association

The new student club is promoting unity as National Hispanic Heritage Month kicks off.

The Hispanic-Latino Association (HLA) at MCPHS is excited to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, which begins September 15 and ends October 15. The 2022 theme is: “Unidos: Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation.” We caught up with President Kenia Doratt, Bachelor of Science in Premedical Health Studies ‘24, to learn about the new student club.

What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to members of your club?

As members of the Hispanic/Latinx community at MCPHS, we recognize that Hispanic Heritage Month is very special and a perfect opportunity to appreciate and learn about Latinx culture. This event is able to unify everyone who identifies as Hispanic/Latinx, seeing as there are different cultures within this one umbrella term. This makes it even more special to understand and embrace people from various countries that share a common language. We hope to make great memories together and become our own healthcare family.

What is the mission of the Hispanic-Latino Association?

We hope to bring together Latinos and Hispanics at MCPHS to share our cultures and form a safe place and community. HLA wants to gather not only Hispanics within our community but also those who share the love of our culture. We want to teach and show non-Latinos how beautiful the Latinx culture is. MCPHS prides itself in diversity. HLA will expand the diverse groups on campus so that everyone has a place to call home.

Are there any events or activities you will be hosting this year?

We would like to host three programs this year – a coffee with friends event, a Day of the Dead celebration, and an Introduction to Medical Spanish.

How can students join?

Anyone can join our club online. We encourage students to follow our social media account and participate in our events.
