About

Valerie Iyer (she/her/hers pronouns) is a Licensed Independent Social Worker and the Associate Director in the Counseling Services office. Valerie earned her Masters of Social Work from Boston College and following graduation provided individual therapy as an outpatient therapist with an emphasis on substance use through Eliot Community Human Services. Valerie then spent three years as a clinician providing psychiatric rehab services through Vinfen, serving over 100 individuals with severe mental illness in the Boston area. Valerie has received training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and is especially interested in mindfulness based practices. Valerie has particular expertise in working with anxiety disorders, trauma, adjustment, and identity concerns.

Valerie is passionate about working with emerging young adults and believes in providing a safe space for college students of all identities to share their experiences. Valerie is committed to providing inclusivity and acceptance to students identifying as LGBTQ, people of color, students with disabilities, and those with intersecting identities. In her free time Valerie enjoys hanging out with her dog, hiking, going to concerts, exercising, and reading.
