About
Dr. Eguale’s has seven years of clinical practice experience along with an M.Sc. degree (genetic epidemiology of tuberculosis), and a PhD (Novel use of EHRs to estimate the prevalence of off- label prescribing, determinants and its association with adverse drug events). His research includes comparative safety and effectiveness of drugs, pharmacosurveillance, measuring conservative prescribing practices, and medication adherence. His work has contributed significantly to priority areas identified by the WHO to incorporate active surveillance to drug monitoring. Dr. Eguale has done extensive research on off-label prescribing practices and physicians’ determinants of off-label prescribing. His research was the first to link off-label use to adverse drug events in adult population. Dr. Equale has done additional work that evaluated information technologies to improve medication safety using EHRs. His PhD and M.Sc. graduates are working in pharmaceutical industries (e.g. Merck), consulting firms, and universities.
