Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (BS)

School of Arts and Sciences

Location: Boston
Start Term: Fall, Spring

Pursue a career in the chemical, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology industries or develop a foundation for postgraduate studies.

Build a Foundational Knowledge of Chemistry

In this full-time, four-year program on the Boston campus, you will learn the broad essentials of chemistry, including organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, biochemistry, and stereochemistry. You will participate in undergraduate research opportunities on campus and in local laboratories and work alongside industry experts to develop a fuller understanding of the field. Finally, you will gain experience in biotechnology techniques, learn the principles of drug design, and grow to understand the mechanisms of drug actions. The program begins in the fall.

Your Four-Year Journey

Our program provides you with a broad understanding of chemistry through study and laboratory work with faculty and other industry experts.  This program is STEM-designated, qualifying international students for an additional two years of OPT work in the United States.

First-Year Experience

  • begin your understanding of chemical principles
  • study cell and molecular biology and calculus
  • learn the essentials of expository writing
  • engage in lab work in chemistry and biology

Second-Year Experience

  • deepen your subject knowledge by exploring organic and analytical chemistry
  • learn the foundations of physics and biochemistry
  • complement your knowledge of the sciences with study of psychology, speech, statistics, and the literature of chemistry

Third-Year Experience

  • continue building a broad knowledge base through the study of stereochemistry and inorganic chemistry
  • gain an understanding of thermodynamics, kinetics, quantum mechanics, and molecular structure
  • explore healthcare ethics and instrumental analysis

Fourth-Year Experience

  • learn spectroscopic analysis and the physiochemical properties of drug molecules
  • explore experimental techniques in chemistry
  • study advanced organic chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry
  • complete advanced electives and the degree program seminar
