Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (Degree Completion)

As a healthcare manager or health educator, you have the power to help shape your future, and the future of healthcare. In this program, you’ll build on your associate’s degree in an allied health discipline to earn your bachelor’s degree and advance your career. 

In this flexible program, you can study on a full- or part-time basis, either on campus or online, and with a concentration in public health or health education. When you graduate, you’ll have the strong foundation needed to assume teaching or management positions within your discipline, or positions in public health and health education. You’ll also be well prepared to transfer into dental hygiene, nursing, medical imaging or therapeutics at MCPHS.

For admission to the program, an applicant must have:

  • An associate’s degree in a clinical allied health discipline from a programmatically and regionally accredited institution
  • Current registration, certification or licensure in an allied health discipline
  • A recommended cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

The following courses may be considered for transfer credit. Courses must have been completed at a regionally accredited college or university with a grade of C or better for transfer. Math and science courses taken more than ten years prior to the anticipated date of matriculation to MCPHS may not be accepted.

Prerequisite/Arts and Sciences Courses:

  • Life Science (3 credits)
  • Basic Chemistry with lab (4 credits)
  • Expository Writing I & II (6 credits)
  • Introduction to Psychology (3 credits)
  • Introduction to Sociology (3 credits) (Acceptable substitutions include History or Political Science)
  • Interpersonal Communications (3 credits)
  • Healthcare Ethics (3 credits)
  • Algebra & Trigonometry (3 credits)
  • Statistics (3 credits)
  • Humanities Elective (3 credits)

Prerequisite courses (as indicated above) must have been completed at a regionally accredited college or university with a grade of C or better for transfer. Math and science courses taken more than ten years prior to the anticipated date of matriculation to MCPHS will not be accepted.

Arts and Sciences Courses

Associate degree applicants will have met all or most of the Arts and Sciences general education course requirements. A minimum 34 semester hours is required (as listed below). Applicants with credit for Anatomy and Physiology I and II (with labs) and Basic Chemistry I and II (with labs) will be granted additional transfer credit, bringing the Arts and Sciences total to 43 sh. Students may complete missing general education course requirements at MCPHS.

Health Sciences Major

All students transferring into the MCPHS Online Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences program will receive 40 credits from professional coursework completed toward their associate degree in an allied health science program. These transfer credits are applied toward the required health sciences major portion of this program.

General Electives

Students complete between 9 and 18 semester hours of general electives to reach the minimum 122 sh required for the degree. Transfer credit is also available for general electives. Transfer credit awarded for courses in the Arts and Sciences, Health Sciences Major and general elective areas may not exceed 92 sh
