Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography—Echocardiography Accelerated Track

Our year-round, three-year program builds on your previous college studies to extend your expertise into echocardiography and vascular medical imaging.

Admission Requirements

Students with previous college credit may transfer into the first or second year of the program and must meet the following criteria:

  • Courses must have been completed at a regionally accredited college or university with a grade of a C in the equivalent of MAT 141, PHY 181, and all BIO and CHE courses and C or better in all other courses for transfer.
  • Math and science courses taken more than ten years prior to the anticipated date of matriculation to MCPHS will not be accepted.

Note: Matriculation into the professional phase of the Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography—Echocardiography track depends upon space availability. Acceptance is based on overall academic performance, including performance in pre-requisite coursework and grade point average requirements, spots available at the time, and clinical site availability.

Students in the DMS program are eligible to apply for the BS in DMS Echocardiography track if they have achieved:

  • a grade of C in the equivalent of MAT 141, PHY 181, and all BIO and CHE courses and C or better in all other courses for transfer.
  • A cumulative GPA of 2.00
  • Successfully passed all other the pre-professional classes

Application will be reviewed for acceptance into the professional phase at the completion of the spring year 1 semester and will also be contingent on the successful completion of the summer year 1 semester courses. Once the Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography—Echocardiography track in Boston is full (cap of 18), those meeting admission criteria will be placed on a waitlist (see information for waitlisted students below).

Information for Waitlisted Students

Those on the waitlist are welcome to continue to take the Bachelor of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography—Echocardiography track prerequisites to be considered for matriculation into the professional phase if a spot were to become available prior to the start of the professional phase in the upcoming fall semester. These waitlisted students can also apply to transfer into the BS in Health Sciences/BS in Medical Imaging and Therapeutics or other School of Medical Imaging and Therapeutics programs, pending space availability. Waitlisted students must follow the prescribed curriculum and meet minimum requirements for consideration for matriculation into the professional phase of these programs.

Courses Accepted for Transfer Credit:

  • Anatomy and Physiology I & II with lab (8 credits)
  • Basic Chemistry I & II with lab (8 credits)
  • Physics I (Algebra-based) with lab (4 credits)
  • Algebra and Trigonometry (3 credits) (Acceptable substitutions include Precalculus and Calculus)
  • English Composition I & II (6 credits)
  • Interpersonal Communications for Health Professionals (3 credits)
  • Introduction to Psychology (3 credits)
  • Statistics (3 credits) (Acceptable substitutions include Basic Statistics, Biostatistics, Psychological Statistics, Economic Statistics)
  • American Culture, Identity, and Public Life (3 credits) (Acceptable substitutions include Introduction to Sociology or upper-level sociology course)
  • Humanities elective (3 credits) (Acceptable courses include Literature, Creative Writing, Philosophy, Ethics, Religious Studies, Select Fine Arts, Advanced Level Languages)
  • Behavioral Science elective (3 credits)* (Acceptable courses include any upper level psychology course)
  • Social Science elective (3 credits)* (Acceptable courses include History, Political Science/Government, Anthropology, Upper-level Sociology, American Studies, Women Studies, Ethnic Studies, Geography, Economics)
  • Healthcare Ethics (3 credits)*

* Prerequisite courses may be transferred in or completed at MCPHS during the professional phase of the program.

Official exam results for CLEP examinations may be used for up to 18 credits of prerequisite requirements.
