Pharmacists in a Health System

Pharmacy Career Pathways

Health System Pharmacist

Pharmacists can fill many roles in direct patient or non-direct patient care, including dispensing, verifying orders, creating intravenous medications, and answering medication related questions. As a health system pharmacist, you’ll collaborate with healthcare providers to treat patients with complex chronic and acute needs.

Inpatient clinical pharmacists can choose from a variety of specialties like emergency medicine, cardiology, critical care, oncology, pain, and behavioral health. Some ambulatory care pharmacists work in clinics and focus on chronic disease states, such as pulmonary diseases, diabetes, cardiovascular related disorders, anticoagulation, weight management/obesity, and geriatrics.
