FAQs

What is an optometrist?

Doctors of Optometry (O.D.s / optometrists) are independent primary health care professionals for the eye. Optometrists examine, diagnose, treat, and manage refractive errors, diseases of and injuries to the eye and associated structures as well as identify related systemic conditions that affect the eye.

  • Doctors of Optometry measure for and prescribe glasses and contact lenses for refractive conditions (hyperopia, myopia, and astigmatism) and corneal medical conditions like keratoconus.
  • Doctors of Optometry prescribe medications to treat and manage infections of the eyes and eyelids.

What kind of services does the Eye & Vision Center offer?

Will the MCPHS School of Optometry students be involved in my examination?

The optometry students will be performing tests and obtaining eye measurements under the supervision of our attending optometrists. Our optometry students are highly trained in the classroom and clinic prior to examining patients in the Eye and Vision Center.
