Dual Degrees, Graduate Certificates, and Concentrations

Online PharmD—Accelerated

Customize Your Degree & Expand Your Expertise

Students enrolled in the Hybrid Online PharmD Pathway can pursue enrollment in dual programs and graduate certificates. These opportunities allow you to personalize your education to align with your career goals and gain a competitive advantage in the field.

Students in the Hybrid Online PharmD Pathway are eligible to pursue a master’s degree in a complementary area of study:

These dual degrees provide a competitive edge for fellowships, residencies, jobs in the pharmaceutical industry, and more. They're designed for those looking to deepen their knowledge of drug development and seek employment beyond the traditional pharmacy setting. Master’s-related coursework begins in the summer of the first professional year and continues throughout the PharmD program. Additional master’s courses are completed after PharmD graduation.

When pursuing a dual degree, MCPHS offers a 50% alumni scholarship for the portion of the master’s completed after graduating with a PharmD.

International students who complete a STEM-eligible master’s program may be eligible to complete up to three years of Optional Practical Training (OPT) after graduation. The Center for International Studies and Center for Career Development provide specialized services to help you transition your license to your home country or open the doors to career opportunities in the U.S.

Graduate certificates are integrated into the core curriculum, enhancing your education, sharpening your expertise, and expanding career opportunities in a specialized area of pharmacy practice. Coursework begins in the summer of the first professional year and continues throughout the program. Completion of Graduate Certificates are recognized at commencement.

The following graduate certificates are also available to PharmD students:

Health and Pharmacoepidemiology
Explore study design, statistical analysis, and quantitative meta-analysis to learn how to apply and interpret the results of epidemiologic evaluations and synthesize evidence from a variety of databases to inform stakeholders in industry, regulation, and policy.

Health Economics and Outcomes Research
Understand how to gather insights for healthcare decision-makers by learning to interpret and apply the results of epidemiologic and health economic analyses and evaluations, as well as identify market access requirements in the U.S. and around the world.

Medication Safety
Study the fundamental concepts and tools to develop medication safety initiatives within a pharmacy practice. Learn to implement changes to create a culture of safety, align initiatives with the goals of a larger organization, incorporate human and environmental factors to reduce medication error and adverse events, and learn from defects in medication-related processes.

Eligibility for participation in concentrations in the Hybrid Online PharmD Pathway is contingent upon the student’s ability to fulfill required in-person commitments. Concentration electives are not available online, and APPE rotations must be completed with the faculty offering the concentration, either on the Worcester campus (for research-based concentrations) or at a faculty-affiliated practice site in Massachusetts or New Hampshire.

A concentration is a focused area of study that consists of two didactic electives and one advanced elective rotation for a total of 10 credits. The available concentrations for this program are:

  • Pharmaceutical Cancer Research
  • Geriatric Pharmacy
  • Classical and Clinical Pharmacology
  • Optimizing Health and Well-Being
  • Pediatric Pharmacy
