International Privacy Notice
If you interact with MCPHS University d/b/a Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences ("MCPHS") websites, services, or communications while you are located outside the United States, local data protection laws may give you additional rights or require us to provide you with more information about how we use your personal information. This International Privacy Notice explains those points. It is intended to supplement the MCPHS Privacy Statement. If there is any conflict between this International Privacy Notice and the MCPHS Privacy Statement, this International Privacy Notice will govern for individuals covered by it.
When this International Privacy Notice applies
This International Privacy Notice applies when we collect, use, or otherwise process information about you while you are located outside the United States. This may include, for example:
- prospective students, applicants, and admitted students located outside the United States;
- current or former students and alumni who are outside the United States; and
- other individuals outside the United States who interact with our websites, events, or services.
How we use your information and our legal bases
We use your information for the purposes described in the MCPHS Privacy Statement, including recruiting and admitting students, providing educational and related services, managing our relationship with you, improving our programs and services, and carrying out our administrative and compliance obligations.
Where data protection laws outside the United States apply, we rely on one or more of the following legal bases for processing your information:
- to take steps at your request before entering into a contract with you or to perform a contract with you, for example, when we process your application, enroll you in a program, or provide educational and related services;
- to comply with legal obligations, for example, when we keep required records, comply with immigration, tax, or reporting requirements, or respond to lawful requests from public authorities;
- for our legitimate interests or those of a third party, for example, to recruit and admit students, manage and improve our programs and services, conduct analytics and reporting, maintain IT and physical security, and promote MCPHS, where those interests are not overridden by your rights and interests; and
- with your consent, where we are required to obtain it or choose to rely on it, for example, for certain types of electronic marketing communications or some uses of cookies and similar technologies. When we rely on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time as described below. Withdrawing consent will not affect the lawfulness of processing that took place before you withdrew it.
We may also use your information for other purposes that we explain at the time we collect it, where permitted by applicable law.
International transfers
Because MCPHS is located in the United States, your information will typically be stored and processed in the United States. It may also be stored or processed in other countries where our service providers operate. Some of these countries may have data protection laws that are different from those in the country where you are located and may not be regarded as providing the same level of protection.
Where required by law, we take steps to put in place appropriate safeguards for these transfers. These safeguards may include using standard contractual clauses or other approved transfer mechanisms, or relying on your explicit consent where appropriate. You may contact us if you would like more information about these safeguards.
Your additional rights
In some countries or regions, such as the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, you may have additional rights regarding your personal information under local law. Subject to applicable law and to certain exceptions, these may include the right to:
- request access to the personal information we hold about you and to receive a copy of it;
- request that we correct or update inaccurate or incomplete personal information;
- request that we delete certain personal information about you;
- object to or request that we restrict how we use your personal information in certain circumstances, including for direct marketing;
- where we process your information based on your consent, withdraw that consent at any time; and
- where applicable, request that we transfer your personal information to another organization.
You may exercise these rights by contacting us as described in the “Contacting us” section below. We may need to verify your identity before we can act on your request, and there may be legal or other reasons why we cannot fully comply with your request, in which case we will explain our response to you.
Complaints
Depending on where you are located, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority in the country or region where you live, work, or believe a violation has occurred. We would, however, appreciate the chance to address your concerns first, so we encourage you to contact us in the first instance.
