Disclosure of Institutional Allocation Under CARES Act Section 18004(a)(1)

The following disclosure provides some updated information regarding the University’s CARES Act funding allocation.

  • MCPHS University has signed and returned to the US Education Department (the Department) a Certification and Agreement and assurance that the institution has used, or intends to use, no less than 50% of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students. MCPHS University has received a total allocation under the CARES Act of $4,414,483, and has disbursed all of this allocation (100%) to students as Emergency Financial Aid Grants.
  • MCPHS University received an award of $2,207,242 from the Department pursuant to the institution's Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students, representing the minimum required (50%) to be disbursed from the University’s total allocation under the CARES Act. The total allocation awarded to the University under the CARES Act is $4,414,483, which the University disbursed fully (100%) to students as Emergency Financial Aid Grants.
  • The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of the date of this report is $4,414,483.
  • There are an estimated 6,171 students at the University eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 from the date of the award through the date of this report, and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
  • As of the date of this report, there have been 4,653 students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act, representing all eligible students at the time of award disbursement.

MCPHS has fulfilled its commitment to distribute 100% of the CARES Act funding to students as Emergency Financial Aid grants.   • As of the date of this report, there have been 4,643 students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act, representing all eligible students at the time of award disbursement.

  • There are an estimated 5,961 students at the University eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 from the date of the award through the date of this report, and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
  • As of the date of this report, there have been 4,585 students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act, representing all eligible students at the time of award disbursement.

  • As of the date of this report, there have been 4,580 students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act, representing all eligible students at the time of award disbursement.
  • The institution awarded Emergency Financial Aid grants to all eligible students at the time of disbursement (100% of the eligible population as of the disbursement date), and accordingly determined grant award amounts for distributing the aid as broadly as possible.

Dear Student:

It appears that you did not file a 2019-2020 FAFSA, however you may have been eligible to file and eligible for a CARES Act grant. If you wish to be considered for a CARES Act grant and experienced expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus, you may qualify for emergency funding.

To be considered for a CARES Act grant, you must complete the certification located here.

The deadline to submit the certification is 5:00 PM EST on Friday, June 19.

If it is determined that information provided in the certification is false or misleading, you may be required to repay any funds awarded.

We anticipate that students who certify their eligibility will receive grant distributions via direct deposit or check as soon as administratively feasible, which we expect to be 1-3 weeks after the June 19th certification deadline.

Background

The US Department of Education has awarded emergency relief funds to US colleges and universities under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Under this program, MCPHS University has received federal assistance to be used for disbursing emergency financial aid grants to eligible students who were enrolled at MCPHS University during the Spring 2020 term. Grants under the program are to provide emergency financial aid to students for assistance with expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus, including eligible costs of attendance such as food, housing, course materials, technology, healthcare, and childcare. Emergency grants will be distributed to eligible students in accordance with the CARES Act and guidance provided by the US Secretary of Education.

Federal guidelines require that only students enrolled in on campus programs during the Spring 2020 semester, and who are eligible for federal financial aid, may receive federal emergency financial aid grants under the CARES Act.

Dear Student:

The US Department of Education has awarded emergency relief funds to US colleges and universities under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Under this program, MCPHS University will disburse all amounts received (100%) from the federal CARES Act program to students as emergency assistance grants.

All students enrolled at MCPHS University during the spring 2020 term, and whose eligibility for federal financial aid has been confirmed, are receiving an emergency grant disbursement in the amount of $860.

Students receiving this email have been confirmed eligible and will be receiving this $860 grant.

We expect grants to be disbursed to student accounts by the end of next week, followed by a cash refund in the same amount paid by direct deposit, or by student refund check if direct deposit information is not available.

Grants under the program are to provide emergency financial aid to students, to help defray costs related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus, including food, housing, course materials, technology, healthcare, and childcare. While these government resources in many cases will not cover all expenses you may have incurred related to the COVID-19 campus disruption, they are intended to provide assistance during these exceptional times.

All students experiencing urgent financial needs or emergencies are encouraged to contact Student Financial Services, whose staff remains available to provide counseling and support.

Dear Students of MCPHS University:

The US Department of Education has awarded emergency relief funds to US colleges and universities under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Under this program, MCPHS University will soon be receiving federal assistance to be used for disbursing emergency financial aid grants to eligible students who were enrolled at MCPHS University during the Spring 2020 term.

Grants under the program are to provide emergency financial aid to students for assistance with expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus, including eligible costs of attendance such as food, housing, course materials, technology, healthcare, and childcare.

MCPHS University is currently initiating the process of making these emergency financial aid funds available to students as soon as possible. Emergency grants will be distributed to eligible students in accordance with the CARES Act and guidance provided by the US Secretary of Education. We anticipate that eligible students (see below) will receive grant distributions via direct deposit or check as soon as administratively feasible, which we expect to be in the next few weeks.

Federal Requirements Regarding Student Eligibility

Federal guidelines require that only students enrolled in on campus programs, and who are eligible for federal financial aid, may receive federal emergency financial aid grants under the CARES Act.

  • Students who have already filed a FAFSA and resolved all Title IV aid requirements for the 2019-2020 award year have already demonstrated eligibility to participate, and no further action is required. Information on disbursement dates and amounts will be disseminated to eligible students via email as soon as possible.
  • Students who have not yet filed a FAFSA for the 2019-2020 award year, but wish to be considered for a CARES Act grant, must email Student Financial Services at SFS@mcphs.edu. Certification of eligibility to participate in federal financial aid programs will be required of these students.

The following students have been excluded from CARES Act grant eligibility by the US Department of Education:

  • Students enrolled exclusively in online programs on March 13, 2020.
  • Students with deferred immigration standing under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
  • Students in the US on a F-1 or F-2 nonimmigrant student visa, or on a J-1 or J-2 nonimmigrant Exchange Visitor Visa.
