Center for Research and Discovery

Centers for Excellence

Students are introduced to a world of scholarship through a variety of mentored experiences open to undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies students, to enrich their academics and foster personal growth and development.

A partnership to explore and encourage the next generation of researchers

Data indicates that students who gain early exposure to research and other mentored academic activities are more likely to demonstrate academic and professional successes that persist even after graduation. The mentors also benefit, gaining the capacity to pursue additional projects and publish more frequently. The collaboration between students and mentors enriches academic experiences and cultivates the next generation of scientists and researchers.

Engage with Mentored Research and Academic Activities

The Center for Research and Discovery provides opportunities for undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies students across all MCPHS campuses. Students and faculty members from all programs are encouraged to come together around shared interests to pursue discoveries that could have a lasting impact on their field.

Annual Student Research Conference

The highlight of the year is the Annual Student Research Conference, during which dozens of student researchers present their work. Peers and faculty advisors provide feedback to help students determine next steps to push their work forward.

Mini Grants

Every year, the Center funds a number of research projects thanks to the generosity of the Provost's office. Grant applications open in late September. Grant awardees also connect with other students interested in research opportunities to share their strategies for connecting with mentors, submitting applications, and answer questions.

Speaker Series

Guests are invited to all three campuses to share their research journeys. The entire MCPHS Community is invited to join virtually.

Institutional Repository

Student works submitted to the Center are catalogued and added to an institutional collection.

Building Academic Excellence With Research and Discovery

The Center for Research and Discovery at MCPHS is a hub of innovation and collaboration, providing opportunities for students to team up with faculty to conduct research in a variety of areas.

Faculty

The Center is always looking for new faculty members to become mentors for research projects and other partnership opportunities, including becoming evaluators at the Annual Student Research Conference.

Demand for Student Research Opportunities

The Center for Research and Discovery is working hard to meet the growing desire of MCPHS students to conduct research and participate in mentored academic experiences.

77%

of MCPHS students surveyed expressed a desire to be paired with a faculty member who is conducting research.

“The evidence is very clear that students who participate in research, and who have the benefit of mentorship, are more likely to graduate, more likely to pursue additional education, and more likely to have a higher degree of confidence in their skillsets and abilities. These are benefits they carry with them far beyond MCPHS.”
