Welcome to the Physical Therapy Program

Congratulations on your decision to attend the Physical Therapy program at MCPHS!

We’re excited that you’ll be joining us soon. There are some important steps to prepare for your time at MCPHS, detailed below. We will continue to post specific information on this page, so be sure to check back often.

Read a welcome letter from Dr. Frances Kistner, Program Director.

White coats and name tags will be ordered for each student by the department. White coat sizes should be based on blazers or jackets that you wear over other clothing. Please complete the fall 2021 white coat order form to order your coat.

If you have any questions, please contact Mariola Melka at Mariola.Melka@mcphs.edu.

MCPHS has established technology guidelines for all new students.

All students are required to bring a laptop meeting the minimum specifications below for supporting both Examplify and ExamMonitor.

Each student will be required to purchase a Privacy Screen or Privacy Filter that fits their device.

All DPT students are required to have a national background check prior to encountering patients throughout the curriculum. During the first week of school, the program will collect a copy of the student's government-issued photo identification. Please be sure to carry that with you. The student should also be prepared to order a background check within a week of New Student Orientation, with a fee payable online by Visa or MC. Instructions on how to order the online background check will be provided during the Orientation.

New DPT students are asked to purchase and complete a self- study in medical terminology. The department recommends the following text for your self-study:

Stanfield P, Hui YH, Cross N. Essential Medical Terminology, 4th edition, Burlington, MA: Jones & Bartlett Learning; 2018. ISBN: 9781284038781

Students are expected to complete all sections of the book as this will be a foundation for your work in the clinical medicine course as well as throughout the DPT program. There will be an examination on medical terminology at the beginning of the fall semester in your Foundations of PT Management I course, so plan your time accordingly.

If you have any questions, please call Dr. Kistner, Program Director, at 508.373.5749 or email at frances.kistner@mcphs.edu.

All students must complete CPR training prior to beginning any clinical education courses. Students must be certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) at the Healthcare Provider Level by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross. Students must provide a copy of the Healthcare Provider Level card indicating active certification (requires recertification every two years). It is recommended that the student verify the course in advance to ensure that the course is appropriate. If students do not have a current, valid BCLS certificate by matriculation, a course will be offered on campus in September.

The MCPHS University bookstore on the Boston campus is able to sell and rent textbooks to students. Shipping is free to students ordering course material.
