Welcome to the Physical Therapy Program

Welcome letter from Dr. Frances Kistner, Program Director.

Congratulations on your acceptance and decision to attend the Physical Therapy program at MCPHS. We’re excited that you’ll be joining us in the fall. Before the program begins there are some next steps you’ll need to take to get ready. On this page you will find important information and forms that you will need to begin your studies. We will continue to post program specific information here so please bookmark this page and visit it often.

Next steps for incoming Physical Therapy students.

White coats and name tags will be ordered for each student by the department. White coat sizes should be based on blazers or jackets that you wear over other clothing. The fall 2020 white coat order form is available here. Please complete and submit the form by July 20.

All students are required to bring a laptop meeting the minimum specifications below for supporting both Examplify and ExamMonitor.

Each student will be required to purchase a Privacy Screen or Privacy Filter that fits their device.

Mac Requirements

All DPT students are required to have a national background check prior to encountering patients throughout the curriculum. During the first week of school, the program will collect a copy of the student's government-issued photo identification. Please be sure to carry that with you. The student should also be prepared to order a background check within a week of New Student Orientation, with a fee payable online by Visa or MC. Instructions on how to order the online background check will be provided during the Orientation.

New DPT students are asked to purchase and complete a self- study in medical terminology.  The department recommends the following text for your self-study:

Stanfield P, Hui YH, Cross N. Essential Medical Terminology, 4th edition, Burlington, MA: Jones & Bartlett Learning; 2018. ISBN: 9781284038781

Students are expected to complete all sections of the book as this will be a foundation for your work in the clinical medicine course as well as throughout the DPT program. There will be an examination on medical terminology at the beginning of the fall semester in your Foundations of PT Management I course, so plan your time accordingly.  If you have any questions, please call Dr. Kistner, Program Director, at 508.373.5749 or email at
