Passkey

Passkey authentication is becoming more common as organizations strengthen security and move away from traditional passwords and one-time verification codes.

Passkey is an authentication option available through your existing Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device. MCPHS is implementing Passkey for Salesforce users because Salesforce is now requiring stronger authentication methods for certain users.

All MCPHS Salesforce users are already prompted for multifactor authentication when working off campus. With Passkey, you will now use this stronger authentication method whether you are working on or off campus.

Note: Once you’ve setup Passkey, you’ll then use the Passkey to sign in to all MCPHS applications, including Office 365, Blackboard, Salesforce, etc.

You will continue to use your Microsoft Authenticator app. However, instead of entering a randomly generated code, you will authenticate using the security method you already use to unlock your mobile device, such as your PIN, fingerprint, or facial recognition.

This provides an additional layer of security by helping verify that you are the person who owns and is using the registered mobile device when accessing Salesforce.

As part of the Passkey authentication process, you will need to have Bluetooth turned on both your mobile device and the computer you are using to access Salesforce.

Bluetooth helps Passkey verify that your mobile device is physically present with the computer being used to access Salesforce. This provides another layer of protection and helps prevent someone from attempting to authenticate using your credentials without having your registered device present.

Users with a Full Salesforce license are required to register a Passkey.

Portal-only users are not affected. Examples of portal users are: Applicant Portal, Faculty Reviewer Portal, SSH Student Portal, and the Student of Concern Portal
