2025-2026 Academic Year

Thanksgiving Break

Halls Close: Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at 6 p.m.*
Halls Open: Sunday, November 30, 2025 at 9 a.m.
Academic Break: November 26, 2025 – December 1, 2025 (classes restart)

Winter Break

Halls Close: Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 12 p.m.
Halls Open: Sunday, January 11, 2026 @ 9 a.m.
Academic Break: December 15, 2025 – January 12, 2026 (classes restart)

Spring Break

Halls Close: Friday, February 27, 2026 at 6 p.m.*
Halls Open: Sunday, March 8, 2026 at 9 a.m.
Academic Break: March 2, 2026 – March 9, 2026 (classes restart)

Spring Semester Closing

Halls Close: Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 12 p.m.
Students are expected to move out of the residence halls within 24 hours of their last final or by the closing date.

Note: *We are aware that students may have class past 6 p.m. and allow students to return to retrieve belonging after class. Hall closing time does not excuse students from class!

FAQs

Why are these dates important?

These are dates of University breaks and hall closings during which the residence halls close. Residents may not stay past the closing dates or arrive prior to halls opens. Please keep this in mind when planning travel arrangements especially purchasing air/train/bus tickets!

Do I need to move out during breaks?

No, students do not need to move their belongings out during breaks. However, residence halls are closed during break periods, and students will not have access to their rooms during that time. Be sure to take any essential items with you before leaving for break.

Can I request to stay on campus over break?

Students who live more than 400 miles from campus or have extenuating circumstances may request to remain on campus and have access to their rooms by completing our Break Stay Form, which will be sent out prior to each break. 

What to expect during breaks.

When requesting to stay during Thanksgiving, Winter, or Spring break, please be aware that during all breaks, University services will be limited, and restrictions will be in place:

• There will be no guest privileges for anyone during these low occupancy periods.
• Food service hours may be limited due to breaks. Check the Eat at COF's website for the most recent hours.
• There will be limited staff available for assistance with lockouts, etc.
• All University offices close for a period of time during both Thanksgiving and Winter break.
